Beaches in Cornwall
There are literally hundreds of beaches in Cornwall, as well as coves and bathing spots in close proximity to our luxury self catering cottages. Even at the height of the season it's still possible to find space to yourself. There is coastline facing in all directions and shelter is available so you can even pick your spot if it's windy.
The beaches in Cornwall vary in their degrees of safety for swimming and it is best to always swim on a beach with lifeguards and to follow their guidelines for safety. Surfing is a popular activity and you will often see the surfers braving all in the mouth of Porthleven Harbour…not a ride for the faint hearted or the beginner!
Instead why not visit one of the local Surf Schools and let them teach you and your children how to enjoy the waves. All equipment including board and wetsuits is provided and they usually manage to get most people on their feet in the first or second lesson! Accredited surf instructors are RNLI trained so they also teach rigorous beach safety which is always better coming from a cool dude with blonde dreadlocks rather than a parent!
This is one way of guaranteeing that most teenagers enjoy their family holiday and leave the computer screen alone for a while… and surfing happens despite almost any English weather too!
There are Surf Schools in Porthleven, Praa Sands, Perranuthnoe, Sennen Cove, St Ives, and Gwithian/Hayle amongst many others. Many do private lessons as well as daily group sessions and they are great with children!
