Enjoy Penzance

Penzance has been a popular seaside resort for many years, and remains a great favourite to this day.  The town has a number of historic buildings, including a house in Chapel Street where the mother of the authors Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte, Maria Branwell, lived.  It is also known as the birthplace of Sir Humphry Davy, an influential figure in the once-thriving mining industry.

You could spend many happy hours exploring the charming back streets, with their antique, craft and gift shops, pop into a friendly local pub or wander down to the seafront and have a dip in the Jubilee Pool, a seawater bathing pool that has recently been adapted so that from Spring 2020 onwards, part of it will be heated using geothermal energy! 

There are many beaches nearby, including Praa Sands, Kenneggey Sands, Prussia Cove and Marazion Beach, at the village of Marazion just along the coast, from which you can reach St Michael’s Mount.  From Penzance you can also take the ferry across the the Isles of Scilly for a daytrip or a longer stay, and there is a choice of boat trips that run from the harbour.  

Walkers will love the area for its trails and paths and spectacular coastal scenery.  Just along the coast there is the fishing port of Newlyn, and the town is also close to places such as Mousehole and Porthleven.  Here you will also find the Savoy Cinema (believed to be the longest-running cinema in England) run by the Penwith Film Society, where many small independent films are shown.
