Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay
Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay are arguably two of the best holiday destinations in Cornwall. Both are located between Padstow and Newquay, have fantastic beaches and great places to eat and also some world class watersports on their doorstep.
Watergate Bay
Watergate Bay is just 4 miles from Newquay and offers a great range of adrenaline sports including surfing, kite buggying, landboarding and kitesurfing. It is a large, open bay at the bottom of steep cliffs, frequently picking up Atlantic swells and consequently highly popular with surfers. Throughout the year, a wide range of events are held at Watergate including surf competitions, beach polo and family fun days.
Mawgan Porth and St Mawgan
Mawgan Porth is also popular with surfers - complete with surf hire and school right by the beach. A stunning bay perfect for a family bucket-and-spade holiday but also providing great waves and great amenities. There’s a village shop, pub, fish and chip shop, pitch and putt and crazy golf (with a proper course nearby) and one of Cornwall’s best kept secrets 2 miles inland. The hidden gem of St Mawgan is one of the prettiest villages you’ll find anywhere. The general store, small ford to paddle in, flower-covered Post Office and little primary school border the quintessentially English village green where locals can be found playing a spot of cricket on a sunny summer’s afternoon. The quaint little village is even home to its own Japanese bonsai garden and has a beautiful 13th Century Parish church. An idyllic place to holiday, with all the seaside bay of Mawgan Porth has to offer just a couple of miles away.
