Bodinnick-by-Fowey Cottages

A fishing village based on the banks of the River Fowey, you can board a ferry here to cross the river to the town of Fowey, or head further north to explore Bodmin Moor.

This tiny hamlet on the east bank of the River Fowey is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful beaches, walks and countryside of the Fowey area without the hustle and bustle of the main town. The ancient cottages and the Old Ferry Inn cling to the hillside around the ferry which has been operating since the fourteenth century allowing easy access to the harbourside shops, restaurants and inns of Fowey itself.

The nearest beaches are only a few minutes drive at Lantic Bay and Lansallos. Alternatively you can cross the ferry and go to Polkerris or Charlestown depending on what sort of beach you prefer. From Bodinnick, the famous Hall Walk leads around the wooded hillside to Pont Creek and on to the village of Polruan. This is a splendid circular walk to take in all of the beautiful harbour scenery. From Polruan you take the passenger ferry to Fowey and can then stroll along through the town returning to Bodinnick on the ferry. Dame Daphne du Maurier lived in the village at "Ferryside" for many years and it was in this area that she found inspiration for her first book. On the Hall Walk you will also see the monument to Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch who wrote "The Astonishing History of Troy Town" based on this area.
