Explore Boscastle and be enchanted by the many stories from its history and its present. This charming harbour village has plenty of hidden gems that can be discovered on a holiday in the area, situated 14 miles south of Bude and 5 miles north-east of Tintagel.

Whether it is enjoying the rugged coastal paths, country walks, one of the many Cornish family friendly sandy beaches or visiting one of the many Cornish attractions there is something for everyone.

Boscastle is a thriving coastal village, which has now fully recovered from the devastating floods of 2004 to become one of Cornwall’s most popular destinations again. Testament to the local people and their hard work, Boscastles recent history is now long forgotten, and memories are once again being crafted along this dramatic part of coastline.

Talking of history, whenever I visit Boscastle there are constant reminders of its links with the famous poet Thomas Hardy. The story goes that he was working on the renovation of St Juliots Church and fell in love with the village. Many pieces of his poetry are believed to be about Boscastle, and it is easy to see why he fell in love with it.

Boscastle Harbour for a start is a stunning inlet that is protected on either flank by stone-built walls and was formerly a hive of activity for fisherman. Today there are a few small fishing boats that bob around the harbour offering a glimpse of the former trade. Down by the harbour you will find a range of cafes, gift shops and pubs to enjoy. Naturally, I will recommend that you sample one of the homemade Cornish Pasties from any of the eateries (nobody makes them quite like the locals).

Having enjoyed some local food, you can then walk it off with a stroll along the south west coast path. Like much of Cornwall the coast path offers a dramatic walk along the coastline, abundant in wildlife with stunning views across the Atlantic Ocean.

If you are a keen walker, you will love Boscastle Walking Week, held during the summer the event attracts a good crowd of locals and tourists. While in October the annual Food, Art and Crafts Festival is held in the village, and last year it attracted over 3,000 visitors and raised £8,500 for local charities- a great event. Or if you fancy something a little easier on the legs, how about the Museum of Witchcraft? A museum solely dedicated to the largest collection of witchcraft artefacts in the world or Boscastle pottery shop.
