Spring in Cornwall

What’s the best bit about spring in Cornwall? Perhaps it’s the fact that spring starts earlier in Cornwall than anywhere else in the country, so you get to enjoy it first. Or maybe it’s the bright blue skies and rising temperatures? It could well be the sudden triumphant rush of life that sweeps over the landscapes, or it might even be the empty beaches void of footprints but yours.
Actually, it’s all of those things. And so much more. Spring in Cornwall is a time to be treasured; when winter has finally shed its cloak and the heady scent of magnolias herald the start of sunnier days. But don’t take our word for it. The only way to discover the joys of spring is to dive in head first. To help you on your way, here are just some of the things you can look forward to this year:
- Spring Gardens: The vibrant splashes of colour under canopies of green, the aromatic perfumes drifting through the air, the lilting melodies of birdsong. Paradise. To experience some of the best spring gardens in Cornwall, head to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trewithen Gardens and Trengwainton Gardens and welcome the new season in style.
- Dog-Friendly Beaches: Dog-friendly beaches can be found year-round in Cornwall, but for the greatest variety, make sure you hit the shoreline before Easter when the seasonal dog ban comes into play. You haven’t seen true happiness until you’ve seen your dog bounding happily along the sand, mouth agape and ears flying. Our dogs will tell you all about it!
- Great Food: The exceptional quality of food in Cornwall is a real draw, especially in spring. With restaurants throwing open their doors and hedgerows blossoming, both foragers and fine-diners are well-catered for. Treat yourself to a foraging course and learn all about the delicious wild foods you can find around Cornwall or sit down and be served by some of the country’s most talented chefs. - Festivals: All through spring, there are lots of family-friendly events taking place across the county. Celebrating Cornish traditions and the arrival of spring, there are lots of cracking festivals to look forward to, with Falmouth Spring Festival 14th-24th March, Cornwall Spring Flower Show 6th-7th April, Porthleven Food Festival 26th-28th April and St Agnes Bolster Festival 4th-6th May to name but a few.
- Easter Activities: If you have young ones in tow, Easter provides lots of activities for little kids and big kids at heart to get involved in. Hunt for chocolatey Easter eggs with the National Trust, meet the season’s new arrivals at Dairyland and check out some of the local talent at Truro’s Made in Cornwall Easter Fair.
