Tate St Ives all set for expansion

The St Ives Tourism Association has come up with funding to go towards the Tate St Ives’ Phase 2 project, presenting a cheque for £1000.

The project is dedicated to further expanding the Tate following its growing success over the years, with the gallery now welcoming around 200,000 visitors a year. The Tate's appeal brings many art lovers to the area, especially amongst those on St Ives cottage holidays, and contributed approximately £12 million to the Cornish economy in 2009 alone.

Phase 2 will involve turning the gallery into a dynamic hub, according to plans, with the extra space being used for a full arts schedule and as a public platform for the work of artist residency programmes and research related to the gallery.

The donation from the St Ives Tourism Association was presented by its chairman, Louise Bryan, to the executive director of Tate St Ives, Mark Osterfield, and will make a significant contribution to the completion of the expansion project.
