Nature lover's dream

Savannah Cottage - A wildlife enthusiast's dream right in the heart of a Wildlife Park, right in the heart of Cornwall.

Chrissy, our local property assistant, visits Savannah Cottage and here is her write-up…

The property itself is light, airy, modern and spacious. The furnishings are super comfy and there is plenty of room to chill out. It is immaculately clean and well equipped with everything you would need. The property sleeps up to 4 plus a baby in a double and a twin room.

The bathroom is very modern and fresh with a state of the art shower or if you’re more of a bath person, then you can enjoy a good soak in the lovely curved bath and wrap yourself up in a nice warm fluffy towel off the heated towel rail.

If you are an avid wildlife fan you will love it as some of the animals roam freely around the park and there was a lemur having a chill-out in the shade on the roof next to the cottage when we were there. He seemed pretty unfazed by our presence and just carried on with lazing around. 

I imagine it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the odd peacock even in the back garden as there are plenty of them around and they too roam freely, if you’re lucky enough you will see them display their feathers. They are extremely vocal and after a while you just get used to it.

There is a cute little café onsite so if you’re feeling lazy during the day you don’t have to go far to get a takeout or just sit and have a coffee. There is a play area for the children too. Infact the Park even has its own children’s farm where children get to pet and feed the farm animals.

As a guest at the cottage you have free access to explore and play with the animals at leisure, within a few steps from the front door you could be hanging out with the monkeys, wallabys, meercats, zebras, lemurs and much more.

Whatever your age you will enjoy it, there is so much to see and to be able to wander freely is great as you will have no time restraints and you can spend day after day with the animals. You wouldn’t need to leave the park if you didn’t want to. However, Porfell is ideally situated to explore what else this part of Cornwall has to offer; Looe and Polperro are only 20 minutes away, the Bodinnick Ferry to Fowey is only 10 minutes away. 

Porfell is 5 minutes away from the A38 giving easy access to Plymouth in one direction and Bodmin in the other direction. This way you could have the best of both worlds, a day on the park feeding the farm animals and then a day crabbing or building sand castles in Looe. Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to take your camera!
