We’re thrilled to announce a new initiative whereby our customers are now able to donate money to our county’s Air Ambulance. We’ve chosen Cornwall Air Ambulance as our nominated charity and are asking our customers to donate just £2 when they book their 2017 break.
Gemma Brown, our Cornish Horizons Manager states: “We are in complete awe of the amazing work carried out by the charity and are mindful of the amount of money it needs to keep the service going.
“Cornwall Air Ambulance has been saving lives across the county since 1987, flying more than 700 lifesaving missions each year. The helicopter can be dispatched within 3 minutes of a 999 call being made and on average they can be at the scene of an accident or incident anywhere in Cornwall within 12 minutes. They can treat patients on-scene or take them to the hospital that best suits their needs, whether in Cornwall or at specialist hospitals out of county such as Derriford’s Trauma Unit or the Bristol Children’s Hospital, reaching these specialist centres in minutes, rather than the hours it can take by road.
“We’ve set what we think is a fairly modest target of £3,500 for the year and we hope, with our customers’ support, to help keep Cornwall’s Air Ambulance flying. Since we set up the scheme at the start of October, Cornish Horizons customers have already kindly donated over £2,300 to the charity.”
Jackie Southon, Head of Income Generation (maternity cover) at Cornwall Air Ambulance explains: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen by Cornish Horizons for their £2 donation scheme and extremely grateful to their customers who have chosen to support us in this way. We do not receive any central government funding for our rescue missions and so are entirely reliant upon the support of companies and individuals from Cornwall and further afield to keep us flying. Our crew can sometimes be called to rescue someone in need on average three times a day, saving time and saving lives here in Cornwall – none of which would be possible without such support. So on behalf of all of our airlifted patients and their families, thank you.”
