New season brings guided tours to Tolgus Tin Mill

Visit a unique survivor! An exciting new chapter in the life of the Tolgus Tin Mill near Redruth is about to begin. The Mill has been a focal point of the Cornwall Gold site since 1865 and is at the heart of a renovation project to safeguard the future of this historic site.  

The latest development sees the introduction of guided tours which share the fascinating history of the mill with stories and tale of the men that worked there. 

Steve Ackland, Marketing Manager said: “Having opened the mill last year to the public, we’ve listened to feedback and our guests want to know more.  As the mill has so many stories to tell, it seemed like the natural step to introduce guided tours. “

The tours last up to an hour leading guests on a journey through Tolgus Mills past, present and future.  On arrival at the mill visitors take a step back in time to hear more about life for the men in the mill, how tin was made and why Cornwall was world renowned as a pioneer of the mining industry.

Thought to be the last remaining tin streaming works left in Europe, it is also home to a working set of Cornish Stamps and a beautiful surviving example of a round frame.  The stamps are over 150 years old, and visitors on the tour will get to see four of the 12 heads running.

Family tickets are £10 for two adults, two children.  Individual tickets are £4 for adults and £2 for children and tours run are various intervals throughout the day, seven days a week.
