Bodmin tipped to be Cornwall's first 'cycling town'

Plans are underway to regenerate Bodmin town centre and connect it with the Camel Trail and cycle hubs at Lanhydrock and Cardinham Woods. In the hope that the scheme will encourage sustainable and healthy living for local people and visitors. 

An exhibition will be open next month to show how the council and construction firm CORMAC will build what will be Cornwall's first cycling town. The drop in sessions will be held at the Shire House Suite in Bodmin on:•    Friday 8 July between 9am and 6pm•    Saturday 9 July between 9am and 4pm

The display will include those all-important timings of road works and representatives from the Council and the construction team will be on hand to answer questions.

The Council and CORMAC has worked with the local community to come up with a scheme which will transform the heart of Bodmin, improving it for businesses, residents and visitors. Better Bodmin, which has been involved in the consultations, believes the works will recapture the country town's streetscape and sense of wellbeing as a town.

Cllr Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council's portfolio holder for Transport, says the town is always looking forward."With Lanhydrock evolving as a major cycling hub, and the Camel Trail proving one of Cornwall's most durable and popular leisure facilities, Bodmin's embrace of the bicycle is a natural step. It is a bold, brave and enterprising project that will require some patience and difficulty whilst being put in place but will pay long-term dividends for the town in terms of business, the environment and the wellbeing of all ages in the town".
