Poldark to return for second series

The popular BBC1 programme Poldark is set to return for a second series after a bumper ratings share. The Cornish set drama starring Eleanor Tomlinson and Aidan Turner helped the BBC to secure its highest ratings share for a set period in a decade.

With the success of Eastenders, Six Nations rugby and prime time dramas, BBC1 took 23.3 percent of overall viewers and 25.5 percent during peak times, in part due to the success of Poldark. As a result, the channel is bringing the actors and its screenwriter Debbie Horsfield back for a second series that will cover the third and fourth books in Winston Graham’s series.

The announcement will come as great news to businesses of Cornwall who have enjoyed a boost in the number of visitors coming to the area to stay after Turner himself described the area in which they filmed as “gorgeous” after spending “a few days on this private beach in St Just, which is near St Ives”, according to this article.

Poldark cottages in Cornwall

Since the series first aired on the 8th March this year, the search for places to stay in what is now being dubbed as ‘Poldark country’ has soared, with families and couples looking for Poldark cottages in which to stay this summer. The series beautifully illustrated the mines that are still open for visitors to look around and see the Poldark filming locations for themselves, with the surrounding area as “gorgeous” in real life as it appears on screen.

As reported in a previous blog article, Turner became a huge fan of Cornwall, where St Ives “felt like the South of France or Italy”, something regular visitors to this part of Cornwall already know all too well for themselves.
