Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer Cornwall has something for everyone. Cornwall has some of the best surfing in the UK. Most of the surfing beaches are on the rugged north coast. Fistral Beach, Newquay

One of the best surfing beaches in the UK. It can get a little crowded, but it caters for all levels of surfer, from experienced to beginner. Children are well looked after with plenty of places to hire surf gear too. It’s also a great place to get some surfing inspiration, as it is home to many national and international surfing competitions throughout the year.

Gwithian Beach near Hayle

Surfing all year round and for all levels. The surf forms and breaks slowly on the gently sloping beach making it a great place for beginners to learn as it gives allows them more time to get to their feet. It’s a long beach so there’s plenty of room for everyone and the waves vary in size along the beach.Polzeath Beach, Padstow

The gentle, shelving, sheltered beach makes Polzeath ideal for beginners. It’s a place to celebrity spot in the summer. And you can even park on the beach at low tide.

Porthtowan Beach

Porthtowan Beach – watch the tide here as the beach disappears at high tide. Waves usually faster than Polzeath. Lifeguards on duty throughout the summer.

Bude Beaches – Summerleaze and Crooklets

Bude has two beaches, Summerleaze and Crooklets. It’s home to surf schools and has lifeguards all summer. There are plenty of places to hire surf equipment, in the summer the surf schools operate from the car park. The waves are good for beginners and experienced surfers alike.

Most surfing is on the north coast but the weather can change that and family surfing is great if the south coast is calmer. Don’t dismiss the south coast. Praa Sands and Perranuthnoe are worth checking out.  And finally, … Always surf on a beach that is lifeguarded.
