Cornish food in the spotlight

The humble pasty has long been the glorified icon of Cornish cuisine but recently, the south west county has been further cementing its reputation for fine produce and cuisine. As a county with both rich countryside and a fantastic coastline, it may come as no surprise that Cornwall is home to both fantastic natural produce and has therefore shaped some of the country’s best chefs.

As a result of culmination of talent in recent years there are now several events to give cooking inspiration to holidaymakers and visitors staying in self-catering St Ives cottages and other popular summer locations in the county. The coming months will see a whole host of culinary events for visitors to enjoy making the most of the changing seasons’ produce.

‘Traditional’ isn’t a by-word for ‘old fashioned’

The end of the month will see a return of one of Cornwall’s best-loved food festivals but not as regulars would know it. The formerly-known Cornwall Food & Drink Festival, is returning this year as the Great Cornish Food Festival. After 10 years, event organisers have decided it was time for change and have updated the festival giving it a whole new look, with a new name and logo. Taking place over the 26, 27 and 28 September in Truro, this great free festival will include everything visitors have loved in previous years and more. If that wasn’t enough, there’s not much longer to wait for the 2014 edition of Cornwall’s Next head Chef. Showing the best of Cornish culinary talent it is sure to inspire visitors that have come from far and wide to see the very latest in cooking skill. This year’s instalment promises to be bigger and better than ever before, held at various venues over November and December including the Eden Project and Cornwall College.
