Record growth for West seaside tourism

Following heatwaves and an overall glorious summer for the UK, recent figures suggest that the West has experienced record growth in tourism. The promising statistics come from a recent survey from VisitBritain and suggest that Cornwall, Devon and Dorset were particularly popular with overseas visitors this year.

Breaks in Newquay, Falmouth and holiday cottages in St Ives are reported to be among the most popular destinations and accommodation with German and Swiss visitors this year according to this article, proving that the coastline is one of the most attractive aspects of a summer holiday in the UK for overseas visitors.

Head of VisitCornwall, Malcolm Bell said the findings were immensely encouraging, stating that, “These new growth figures are great to see,” and “The last two summer months have also been wonderful – the sun has shone, the sea is as warm as Portugal or California and the beaches have been idyllic playgrounds and venues for creating life long memories.”

Similarly, the West’s beaches have also been among high praise this summer with the Derby Telegraph asking readers to name their favourite beaches in Britain, where the West came up trumps yet again. Among the top beaches in Britain were St Ives’ Carbis Bay, Woolacombe in Devon. 

While the summer season draws to a close as children across the country prepare to go back to school, the autumn period offers the perfect chance for parents or couples to take a romantic weekend break. These popular British holiday locations are just as picturesque and desirable come the colder months as they provide all that families love in the summer, whilst giving couples the chance to escape the crowds and peak prices!
