Tips for an extra special Cornwall family holiday

As the sun continues to shine across Cornwall, it’s hard to find a better place to enjoy a holiday in the British Isles. Nestled into England’s far west, Cornwall really does have it all; from the dramatic coastlines, traditional towns and villages and the wealth of family attractions, you won’t leave disappointed.

So much variety and choice does leave one problem however: how best to enjoy a family holiday in Cornwall? Fortunately, we’ve come with some great suggestions to help you plan the perfect trip. Whether you’ve booked into a large Cornwall cottage with all your extended family, or will be introducing youngsters to the county for the first time, there’s fun and excitement to be found in every direction.

The days out

While you may love nothing more than spending the day at the beach, it’s important to enthuse the interests and imaginations of the whole family to ensure everyone has the best trip possible. The best way to do this is through visiting the plethora of family attractions, with one of the best of these being the Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary near Looe.

The Monkey Sanctuary cares for a range of different species of monkey, and with keepers on hand to give informative talks, it offers an informative and educational day out for family members both young and old. There are wildlife gardens, an activity room for kids, workshops, gift shop, café and picnic areas to enjoy, so there is always plenty to see and do.

Another animal attraction is the Falmouth Aquarium, an establishment opened back in 2012 that offers plenty of fun for the whole family. Visited by thousands every year, the aquarium is praised for its work with local communities on an outreach and engagement programme. As part of the programme children and families are invited to attend free events where they can interact with marine life and get to know Cornish fish and crustaceans. The food

After a whole day of fun and excitement, the family is bound to be getting hungry. Fortunately, the Duchy is full of fantastic restaurants to satisfy the hunger of all. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, you cannot beat a visit to Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, the famed eatery that has stood as the bedrock of Padstow’s restaurant scene for more than 25 years.

Wherever you are in the county, you are sure to find the perfect restaurant to suit both your taste and budget.

The great outdoors

As Cornwall is so highly regarded for its natural vistas, be sure not to waste the opportunity to explore them during your holidays. A fine way to do just this is by joining up with the coast path, a well-maintained network of walking routes that span the whole coastline of Cornwall. The best aspect of the Coast Path – other than the many photo opportunities – is that it’s completely free to enjoy; wherever you join the path, the only costs incurred will be driving to your nearest opening. There are also outstanding vistas found inland, particularly on Bodmin Moor, which offers 80 square miles of luscious natural pasture. A designated National Park, there isn’t a better place to head if you want to enjoy the great outdoors with the family during your cottage breaks in St Ives or other regions in the county.
