The St Ives Christmas light switch on turned out even better than organisers could have hoped for with a record number of visitors coming out to see Father Christmas ride into the harbour by RNLI lifeboat, leaving the sleigh at home for this special event.
With a mammoth total of 3,000 visitors – along with locals - venturing out from coastal St Ives holiday cottages to see this spectacular event on Friday evening, organisers were forced to make changes to the programme to allow for so many people being in the town.
Harbour front businesses, including St Ives shops and restaurants, reported that it was their best December night for trade in years, with many people getting into the festive spirit before the main event. Organisers are set to put on an even bigger celebration next year thanks to the evening’s grand success.
