It stands for Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is exactly what is says it is. The definition is ‘an outstanding landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are so precious that it is safeguarded in the national interest’. And for those who are not aware any AONB has the same status and protection as a National Park. For those people who are lucky enough to either holiday in one of Cornish Horizons or even (like myself) lucky enough to be living here in this beautiful County, Cornwall has nearly a third of the land designated as AONB. With its spectacular coastlines and the rugged uplands and many hidden coves is it such a wonder that many thousands of visitors come year after year? Brown Willy, Roughtor, Mousehole, Bodmin Moor, Lands End, The Lizard Penisula, The Fal River, these are just a small handful of Cornwall AONB's names that you might recognise if you have visited Cornwall.

For those visitors out there who are the more adventurous types It is hoped that off-road cycling routes will bring in a new breed of tourist and encourage visitors to stay in Cornwall’s less-visited areas, bringing an economic lifeline. Maps and guides are now freely available online for tourists and locals alike.

So come on you Cornwall lovers, dig out those walking boots or bikes and book yourselves a late bargain break ( there are lots to be had) before the hustle and bustle of Christmas descends on.
