Cornish Christmas Day Walks

It's almost that time of year again where we don't stop at stuffing our faces full of turkey, Christmas pud and boxes of chocolates all washed down with plenty of Bucks Fizz.

With lots on the TV in the evening, why not stretch your legs, put some fresh air in your lungs and try to burn a few calories by getting out for a walk post Christmas lunch.

Most of our Cornish cottages are located close to a wonderful beach, woodland walk or area of beauty so if you are not already booked into one this year, be sure to take a look and book for 2014.

Below we have listed three personal favourite areas for festive Winter walks;

Penrose - National Trust - Porthleven With the largest fresh water lake in Cornwall, that opens via stunning woodland to miles of golden sands, Penrose is not to be missed. Many walking options, as well as cycling, the Penrose Estate can be accessed either via the harbour village of Porthleven or via the old market town of Helston. It is incredibly dog friendly with well thought out paths and fields for throwing a ball and at the Helston end there are two children's play parks, a boating lake (boats in summer only) and a small cafe. Mousehole - Christmas Lights This fishing village in the far West of Cornwall is famous for it's wonderful Christmas Light display. It receives 30,000 visitors a year and no expense is spared for the amazing spectacle. There is a great walk from Mousehole to the equally lovely Lamorna Cove.

Tehidy Country Park - Woodland Walk - Portreath The largest woodland in Cornwall is to be found at Tehidy Country Park and this year it is hosting an immersive theatre experience within the woods entitled 'The Winter Wood'. Starting at the Woodland Gate, fairies and spirits lead visitors down a candlelit path, telling stories and singing songs, to Old Man Winter's Travelling Theatre Tent. Rogue Theatre, the group behind the show, advises families to bring "a torch, a warm coat, a pair of wellies, and a sense of adventure". The show includes free hot chocolate, sparkly face painting and the chance to make a traditional winter decoration to take home with you. This runs every day except Christmas Day at 4pm and 6.30pm
