Vickers VC10 to go on show at Newquay Classic Air Force Museum

The Classic Air Force Museum at Newquay Aerohub has now become the home of a Vickers VC10 jetliner - one of just three examples that are still airworthy.

Known by many as the Queen of the Skies, it was originally designed as a commercial aircraft but has served as part of the RAF's air-to-air refuelling fleet for several years. After the retirement of the Supersonic Concorde, the VC10 took the crown of the fastest jetliner on the planet.

Built back in 1967, the ZA148 'Guy Gibson VC' was part of the East African Airlines fleet before being purchased by the RAF to assist with its work. After a good service for the force, the model will now be on permanent display at the museum. The Classic Aircraft Trust said that it wants to preserve the life of this iconic aircraft.

The arrival of the aircraft was a huge event for the Cornish airport, with plane enthusiasts from far and wide flocking there to see the VC10 conduct a number of flyovers before landing.
