Huge Efforts Being Made To Restore Medieval Well in Helston

A medieval Holy well in Helston is currently the subject of tireless restoration work, sustained efforts which are hoped could avoid the collapse of the age old structure.

Built of killas stone and dating back to the 17th century, the Trelill Well features a granite arch doorway and is recognised as a perfect example of a medieval well house. The well is a famous landmark across Cornwall, when back in the 1920s it became the first structure in the county to be designated as a scheduled monument. Local volunteers have been working alongside archaeologists and builders to bring Trelill Well back to its former glory; the team have a tough job on their hands as it has not had any repairs or alterations for more than 100 years.
