A bald eagle named Archie is celebrating his 25th birthday at the popular Paradise Park attraction, near Hayle, this weekend, a landmark in a life that has been full of heartbreak, adventure and happiness.

The plucky predator was hatched in a Canadian forest in April 1988, only days before a serious fire raged through the habitat. In a last ditch attempt to control the blaze, firefighters felled a swathe to create a fire break, bringing Archie and his new world crashing down with it.

Fortunately, the hatchling was rescued by forest rangers and taken to the Thompson Zoo in Manitoba, Canada, where he was hand-raised for eight months, before transferring to his current home at Paradise Park.

He has since become one of the park's most adored residents and regularly wows crowds with daring flying displays. Be sure to wish Archie a happy birthday whilst on a break to one of the wonderful Cornwall cottages over the coming months.
