The Cornwall Council have unanimously backed plans for an ambitious £12 million extension at Tate St Ives, it has been reported by a regional newspaper.

The unique and extensive project includes new galleries and art handling facilities, whilst there will also be education and community spaces at the site, which lies off the picturesque Porthmeor Beach.

Construction on the new wing – which will be located at the rear of the Tate St Ives, is expected to begin this autumn and will be completed by 2015, according to official estimates, although that does depend on the final decisions of funders like the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.

An exciting addition to what is already a booming cultural landscape in the county, the development is expected to attract thousands of art and history buffs to the region for their vacation in one of the excellent Cornwall cottages.
