Don Mowat is a self-taught artist who has been painting and exhibiting his work for many years. Born in London, Don and his wife have owned a home in Padstow for several years. Following retirement, they were finally able to realise their long-held dream and permanently relocate to Cornwall.

“Up until recently my wife and I lived in London, not far from the ancient woodland of Epping Forest. Having this vast, green space on our doorstep was a great contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city and always proved to be a rich source of inspiration to me. Now we’re retired and very happily settled in Padstow, I’m delighted to have more time to devote to my painting and to exploring – and capturing in my work - the natural beauty of such wonderful Cornish landscapes and coastal scenes.”

“My connection with Trevibban Mill goes back to 2015. My wife, and I discovered the newly-opened vineyard, run by the charming Liz and Engin, on a warm and sunny day in early autumn. Drinking their amazing wine, we marvelled at the spectacular views of yellow sunflowers and the lilac-coloured fields of phacelia and somehow felt as if we were sitting under Provencal, not Cornish skies! That very day we talked about how fabulous the Mill would be as an exhibition venue and I started to imagine my own paintings exhibited there.  I started working on some canvasses as soon as I got back home and just a few weeks later presented Liz and Engin with a set of limited editions. It was the start of a lovely friendship and earlier this year, when I approached them with my idea for an exhibition in the Mill’s wine-tasting space, they enthusiastically agreed.”

Don’s exhibition, ‘Trevibban Vineyard and Cornish Landscapes’ can be seen at Trevibban Vineyard, near Wadebridge, from 6-8 July 2018.
