We all love exploring new places – and so do our dogs! Here’s our favourite dog friendly days out chosen by a few of our team members…

Our Property Administrator, Laura

My favourite dog friendly day out is taking my little Dora to Daymer Bay for a swim and a long walk across the beach, it’s her happiest time! She recently fell poorly with a diagnosis with no immune system and bleeding internally so she’s not herself at the minute, once she’s back to normal we will definitely be back down the beach swimming and making some new dog friends!

One of my favourite places to visit where I can take my dog is the Lost Gardens of Heligan on the south Cornish coast. A genuine secret garden which was lost for decades, it is now an award-winning restoration work spreading across over 200 acres with miles of beautiful walks. The Heligan Estate is managed using a combination of both historic and modern sustainable techniques. The livestock graze in ancient pastures and there is an abundance of wild flowers to gaze at as well as an incredible, exotic jungle garden complete with rope bridge. Strolling through the Woodland Walk you will come across the beautiful sculpture of a sleeping goddess known as the ‘Mud Maid’. A larger-than-life sculpture created from mud and covered with grass and moss, it holds a mystery about it that will have you enthralled. Heligan has its own Kitchen & Bakery making the best use of their garden produce and home-reared meat and is the perfect place for lunch al-fresco or afternoon tea. Dogs on leads are welcome at Heligan all year round and whilst they cannot be taken into the restaurant itself, they are welcome in the outdoor, covered seating area.

You can’t beat a visit to Bedruthan steps with your four legged friends.  Not only do you get to enjoy the stunning, rugged coastline but after your walk you can sit outside the Carnewas Tearooms that overlooks Bedruthan Steps with views onto parkhead.  The tearooms have been run by the same local family for 30 years and the café itself is steeped in history originally starting its life as an old mining stable. The tea gardens which used to be the horses paddock now provide an idyllic place for lunch or one of our famous cream teas.  They provide a warm welcome to pets and even have some special doggie treats for them!

For me there is nowhere better to enjoy a dog friendly day out than at the beautiful Towan beach in Newquay. Rodney- aka Bees -likes nothing better that getting his paws sandy and taking a dip in the ocean to cool off after chasing other tails around! The beach is one of many Cornwall beaches that are dog friendly all year round and when the tide is out you can walk all the way from Newquay Harbour to Porth. And with Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze all offering great places to stop and have a bite to eat you certainly won’t go hungry.  Our good friends at Newquay Activity Centre are also based on Towan beach so if you’re canine friend fancies themselves as the next Pro pup surfer then give them a call!  Here is there blog all about Towan beach and why it is great to visit: https://newquayactivitycentre.co.uk/guide-to-towan-beach-newquay/
