Top tips for a rainy day in Cornwall

Here in Cornwall we are blessed with some stunning weather – one of the mildest places in the country we rarely ever get snow and with longer hours of daylight due to our southerly location, there is even more time in the day to explore!

But when we do experience a few drops of the old liquid sunshine, there is no shortage of things to do and places to visit!

For the whole family

If you have kids to entertain, whether little ones or teenagers, Cornwall won’t disappoint in the things-to-do-on-a-rainy-day department!

For the younger ones there’s no shortage of places offering soft play and there’s more than enough attractions to fill your whole week – from the amazing Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay to marvelling at the tropical birds at Paradise Park in Hayle. For older kids, Bodmin Jail (said to be one of the most haunted places in Britain!) and Waterworld in Newquay offer some great days out indoors!  Entertain your teenagers (not an easy task even on the best of days!), at the Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard or any one of the outdoor activity centres across Cornwall. Whether hurtling down a zip wire, zorbing or even throwing axes, your teenagers will have a great time whatever the weather!

Under cover

The world-famous Eden Project houses a spectacular array of plants in some of the largest greenhouses in the world (we’re also a fan of the food too!), making it a great all-weather day out.

Cornwall is home to some amazing houses and estates.  From the grand Tudor houses of Mount Edgcumbe and Cotehele to the ancient house at Port Eliot (parts date back at least 1,500 years!), there is no shortage of amazing houses to visit – check out the highlights.

Although it’s St Ives that’s world-renowned for its art scene, boasting galleries galore plus the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Tate St Ives, the whole of Cornwall is an artist’s mecca.  Spend an afternoon perusing the paintings and crafts found in almost every Cornish village and town.

We can’t imagine a better way to while away a rainy day than to partake in one of the many brewery, cider farm and vineyard tours on offer!  Find out how Cornwall’s award-winning products are made and enjoy the samples on offer! Check out some of the best.

Head outside

A bit of bad weather can lead to some pretty awe-inspiring spectacles (just make sure there’s no danger of being blown away!).  An invigorating walk along Cornwall’s beaches and coastal paths lets you witness the power of the sea with almighty waves pounding the cliffs - a truly breath-taking sight.

If you can’t beat them, join them!  For the more adventurous, why not get even wetter and fully immerse yourself in Cornwall’s outdoor lifestyle!  With activity centres all across the county, try your hand at surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, coasteering or diving. Our friends at Newquay Activity Centre offer some fantastic experiences - don’t forget to use your Holiday Extras discount!

Have a fabulous holiday in Cornwall, whatever the weather!
