A day in the life of a property expert

Join Annabel for a day as she meets the owners of an amazing new holiday let.

I’ve been working with Cornish Horizons now for almost 3 years and I can honestly say this job is the best! I came from a mixed commercial background incorporating HR, retail management and residential letting and was able to bring a range of skills and experience to the role.

My day starts early usually about 6.30am with my dog Stanley demanding his first walk of the day whatever the weather! I live in Falmouth on the south coast and we are lucky enough to have some public footpaths nearby so I head off with my head torch and Stanley with his flashing collar so I can see him off the lead in the dark.

I am usually at my desk by about 8.15am as every day is busy and today I am heading out to photograph one of my latest new properties called 66 Esplanade in Fowey. Before I leave I like to clear a few emails and deal with anything urgent as I’m going to be out until later this afternoon.

I pack up my photography kit which includes the camera, tripod and all my props and the last thing to do before I leave is to make up a coffee in my travel mug and pack some snacks to last me through the day.

66 Esplanade is a beautiful Victorian villa with uninterrupted views over the estuary so I have my work cut out photographing it and capturing the views during the rain showers and changeable skies. I know this property is going to let well and it will make a wonderful holiday location.

Tom from our Fowey office popped in to take a look around as he will be the local contact for guests staying here. I really enjoy the photography aspect of my work and am always striving to improve. Our photos are our ‘shop window’ and are paramount to achieving good bookings.

When I finish at No 66 I call in to see a property I have just agreed terms on with an owner.

It is in central Fowey and has an amazing rooftop terrace and some really stylish design features so I have another great photo shoot to plan in.

I wanted to make more notes so I could start preparing the property for our website and a few quick photos on my iPhone for reference purposes are always useful.

After this I head to our Fowey office for the last bit of the day for a coffee and a catch-up with Tom so that he knows what is coming on and we review how recent new properties are performing on bookings.

I make a few phone calls and respond to emails and messages that have come in during the day. I have a new enquiry from an owner with a property in Looe so that is a high priority to follow up.

A personal telephone call always works best initially and I come off the phone with an appointment in the diary to meet the owner next week.

A busy day as always but I have achieved a lot and end the day on a high note.

Wouldn't it be great if my next 'day in the life' was about your holiday let! To get started and find out more about letting with us, simply click here, fill out the form and you'll be hearing from me soon!
