St Ives has further cemented its status as a top holiday hotspot in the UK with its popular Porthminster Beach being awarded ninth place in TripAdvisor’s 2014 Travellers’ Choice Best Beaches in Europe award. The stunning beach has received some 349 reviews from the TripAdvisor community, 258 of which described it with the site’s highest rating of ‘Excellent’.

Porthminster Beach now has Travellers’ Choice 2014 Winner status on the TripAdvisor site to further add support to its status as the second best attraction in St Ives, closely following by the equally spectacular Carbis Bay, with the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate Gallery also ranking highly as popular sights in the town with guests of coastal St Ives cottages.

Award Winning Beach

Porthminster’s award-winning position on TripAdvisor has been won through the reviews and ratings posted on the TripAdvisor site by visitors to the area in the past 12 months, with the website’s spokesman James Kay stating in this recent article that it only shows that the British public should be making the most of such fantastic beaches that outrank that of the likes of Italy and Portugal saying, “To have three British beaches named among the best in Europe just goes to show how lucky we are in the UK to have such stunning scenery right on our doorstep”.

St Ives’ Porthminster Beach came just behind that of Rhossili Bay in Wales in third place, across the water from other popular visitor destinations nearby Pembrokeshire summer cottages. With a great number of UK beaches in the top 25 TripAdvisor has highlighted the rise in popularity for staycations as more and more opt to make the most of some of the beautiful holiday areas of the UK, such as Cornwall and Wales.

TripAdvisor’s description of Porthminster Beach depicted the area as ‘A favourite place for a family outing, this lovely stretch of beach overlooks Godrevy Lighthouse in the distance’ and visitor reviews echoed this as they described the beach as ‘simply the best!’ and ‘the best beach in Britain’s finest seaside town’. To find out why so many raved about Porthminster and St Ives talk to the people at Powells Cottage Holidays, as they’ll be only too willing to show you what the seaside town has in store for its prospective guests.
