The top attractions in Cornwall were recently recognised at the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2012, with the National Maritime Museum and Porthcurno Telegraph Museum topping their categories.

The annual awards pick out the best Cornwall has to offer and this year it was a close run contest. Topping the best large visitor attraction category was the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, coming out just ahead of the Tate St Ives and Cotehele in Saltash.

In the small attractions, the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum took gold, followed by silver for the Geevor Tin Mine in Pendeen and bronze for the Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance.

The top attractions were picked for the outstanding quality they offered visitors staying in Cornwall cottages. Malcom Bell, the VisitCornwall head, commented on this quality, saying that he believed it explained Cornwall’s tremendous success in recent years, something he hoped would continue.
