Sending a Mongoose to Madagascar may not quite be what you associate with Cornwall, probably more likely to be great beaches, world class surf, wonderful foods and great places to stay. But news hot off the press this morning confirms that hand reared baby Mongoose - Kirindy - will soon be setting off on an amazing adventure to a protected park in it's native Madagascar. The narrow striped Mongoose is extremely hard to hand-rear, so this achievement by Newquay Zoo is to be applauded. As well as this life changing event for Kirindy, also coming soon - on December 8th &9th at Cornwall's biggest Zoo is some festive fun amongst the animals. Santa will visit and there are special treats for all.

The National Trust's Trerice House is close to Newquay, and on the same dates has a "Get Crafty" event where you can make some lovely Christmas themed gifts for family and friends. With Padstow hosting its Christmas Festival on 8th & 9th December, you could have a fun packed weekend enjoying some seasonally themed experiences and purchasing truly unique gifts.

Whether you are able to visit for a few days or the whole week, here is our selection of Cornish Cottages for a well deserved break in your self-catering home from home.

Blackberry Cottage and Clover Cottage are sister properties next door to one another on delightful Tregolls Farm near Wadebridge. A family group could easily book them together as they can accommodate up to 10 guests. Ideally situated for popping into Wadebridge or Padstow or even the short drive to Newquay, you could have a wonderful break in these beautifully presented, comfortable barn conversions. What could be better than exploring the Cornish countryside, visiting fantastic beach locations, enjoying some festive events and then returning to your own romantic bolt hole to just relax in front of the log burner. For a smaller family, then also at Tregolls Farm is Rose Cottage. With the same attention to detail but with the added advantage of a private enclosed garden and stunning views, it makes a great retreat. A wonderful welcome is assured, along with the home made scones for your Cornish cream tea, awaiting your arrival.
